Buy a Friend a Book Week is October 1-7 (as well as the first weeks of January, April, and July). During this week, you’re encouraged to buy a friend a book for no good reason. Not for their birthday, not because it’s a holiday, not to cheer them up–just because it’s a book.
What book would you choose to give to a friend and why?
It depends on the friend.
If my friend just needs a good quick read, I'd send Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death.
If my friend needs a laugh (and has the right sense of humor), I'd send Life with Jeeves.
If my friend needs a laugh (and has a different sense of humor), I'd send Anguished English.
If my friend is upset about political things, I'd send Animal Farm. (also good for the friend who is a conspiracy theorist)
If my friend is sick of religious hypocrites, I'd send two: Soul Survivor and Blue Like Jazz.
If my friend is fine spiritually and wants to do some Bible study, I'd send Bad Girls of the Bible.
If my friend is upset about the state of the world today, I'd send The Diary of a Young Girl.
If my friend wants to read some classical literature, I'd send Emma or David Copperfield.
If my friend likes graphic novels, or just wants to try something new, I'd send Persepolis.
Finally, if my friend had a deprived childhood, I'd send my favorite: Anne of Green Gables.

This is one question where I'm going against the flow. Normally I do one of those "depends" answers myself, but I actually had a particular book this time.
Great choice!
I too want to re-read a couple of those!
GREAT answers!! And I totally agree. It depends on the person you are buying for!
What a great list. You're friends are lucky to have you as a friend.
