Monday Loves

Today's post will be themed:

Things I Love about My Niece
(whether it's Monday or not)

I love how my niece rolls her eyes at people.
I love how my niece makes faces when she's sleeping.
I love how my niece squeaks like a dog's toy.
I love how my niece covered her ears with her fists when her mom talked about breast-feeding.
I love how my niece scrunches herself up into a little ball and settles into my shoulder.
I love how my niece opens her eyes whenever the dog is around.
I love how my niece spit up on my mom but not on me.
I love how my niece grips my finger.
I love how my niece folds her feet like a little lady.
I love how my niece fits into her pink clothes.
I love how my niece sticks her tush out when she's held upright.

I love saying the words "my niece."

p.s. I love how my niece got me out of school for two whole days.

Babies, babies, babies! The world is obsessed with babies! (and for good reason, they are magic aren't they?) As a 26-year-old male with a girlfriend of 35, I have been thinking a lot about babies lately, and wondering at what point they lose their particular preciousness and become "just a person."

What do you think? Are babies simply magical or is it just an illusion?

I think it depends on the baby.

I'm not into babies as a general rule; I don't coo and awww and make kissy faces and start talking about my biological clock.

This particular baby happens to be of interest to me because we're related, because she came out of my sister who is one of my favorite people, because I've been tracking her progress for months, because I'm going to be a permanent part of her life and she's going to be a permanent part of mine. I don't think she will ever lose her magic, for me.

Other babies, though, stop being magical just about the time I get a whiff of their diapers.
