Today, I was at my desk and I thought Student J was talking to me.
So I looked at him expectantly. He looked back. We looked at each other.
"Did you need something?" I asked.
"No," he said.
"Did you ask me a question?"
"No."
"Did you say my name?"
"No."
"Oh," I said. "I must have been hallucinating."
Student X couldn't stand it any longer. "Ms. Flower," she said, "you know hallucinations are a symptom of drug use."
"Well," I said to the ceiling, "you would know."
"Oooooooooh," said the class, and everyone turned to see her reaction.
She was quiet for a moment, and then she nodded slowly.
"Touche, Ms. Flower," she said, "touche."
