Valentine's Day, from Ninth Grade

One of my freshmen asked me this in all seriousness:

Ms. Flower, why do people say, "I love you with all my heart?" It's like they're saying, "I love you with all my blood-pumping organ."

I had no response to that.

In some cultures, they say, "I love you with all my stomach.: Also, "I love you with all my liver."

I think it has to do with what keeps you alive...

I thought I'd remembered something like that. I did suggest that he try telling his girlfriend that he loved her with all his GUTS. ("Because she's worth more than just your heart's love; you've got ALL your organs involved!")
