I Sniffle, I Sob

I watched the movie Rent this weekend.

I've had the soundtrack to the musical since college, but I've never seen it onstage, so I was looking forward to seeing the movie.

So. Y'all. If you don't think a white-bread middle-class Southern girl with a conservative bent would cry over the death of a gay-and-proud drag queen with AIDS? You would be so, SO wrong. We are talking body-wracking, tears-a-flowing, mascara-running SOBS.

I don't know what it is about musicals that affect my emotions, but I haven't cried this hard over a fictional character since the Phantom of the Opera drifted off into his sewer fog, alone.
